What is Intertrigo?
Intertrigo is an irritated rash involving skin folds where two surfaces touch and/or rub. It is most common in hot weather, and is found principally in the groin, toe webs, armpits or under the breasts.
Intertrigo is mainly a mechanical irritation resulting from skin constantly rubbing on skin. When heat and sweating are added, the skin becomes soggy, inflamed and often infected. Intertrigo can vary in appearance from white, soft skin to a bright red color. There can be swelling, blisters and drainage of fluid. The involved skin is itchy, tender or both.
